Why did you choose teaching as a career?
I was called by God into Christian Education ministry at the age of 15. After completing my secondary education, I had a year as a ‘trainee’ teacher before completing my first degree – a Bachelor of Arts in Secondary Education. Now, after more than four decades teaching for the Lord, I thank Him for giving me such a fulfilling professional career. The fact that I have always loved working with children and young adults has contributed, greatly, to this sense of fulfilment.
Who inspires you and why?
My greatest friend, Jesus, once said: “Let the little children come to me, and do not stop them; for it is to such as these that the kingdom of heaven belongs” (Matthew 19: 14). It is such a privilege to be His ambassador, pointing young lives in the way they should go.
What is the most rewarding thing about your role?
Seeing the Bible come alive and seeing it embed eternal life into the lives of my students.
What are you looking forward to?
Sharing great stories about my greatest friend, Jesus, and hearing them share their stories in return.
When you’re not teaching, what do you do in your downtime? Do you have interests or hobbies?
I love research and writing, lay preaching, church planting, gardening, music, travelling amongst God’s magnificent creation and even watching a little sport now and again!
What book are you reading, or what would we find on your podcast list? What do you love to learn about?
I have been a student all my life. I am always reading my Bible and love reading other devotional books, biographies, text books and novels. I am also interested in a topic that many Christians seem to avoid or show little interest in – Godly entrepreneurism – how Godly business people help alleviate the tsunami of suffering in the world.
